This 3-day (24-hour) refresher course is a refresher for the ARFF operator. This course will cover the recommended sections and objectives as required by the FAA FAR 139 A/C Circular 150/5210-17C  for the ARFF Fighter. At the completion of this course the student will have completed the recommended skills and tasks to be recertified as an ARFF Firefighter for 1 year on date of completion. This course only applies to those who have completed the initial 40- ARFF class or equivalent with approved or recognized certification from the AHJ in conjunction with FHET Training LLC.  The student must complete the live burn portion of the course as outlined in the FAA FAR 139 Cert AC 150/5210-17c 1.2.2.1; 1.2.2.2; & 1.2.3; 1.2.3.1. This course will cover the lecture and hands on practical during the duration of the course.

This course will open online on September 1. All online coursework must be completed before the weekend classes. Participants who have not completed the required coursework will not be permitted to take part in the weekend portion of the course. You are only required to complete the tests, but if you want to take the quiz for practice you are able to do so.

Students will be monitored and assisted by an instructor through email and on-line course contact. Corresponding skills instruction and evaluation will occur at a training facility. This course prepares new firefighters to operate under direct supervision in the exterior or non-IDLH areas of the fire scene only. It is also the prerequisite course for participating in the SCBA/ Interior Firefighting Operations-FF-1 course. Students participate in training covering firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE), self-contained breathing apparatus inspection and cylinder changing, fire department communications, building construction and fire behavior, modern fire control research, portable fire extinguishers, rope and knot tying, ground ladders, forcible entry, tactical ventilation theory, water supply, hose and fire streams, loss control, orientation to fire origin and cause determination, fire prevention and life safety initiatives, confined space awareness, Firefighter post fire decontamination, overview of first aid and buddy care, and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations.
Completion of this course achieves the 19 objectives of function 4.1 Exterior Firefighter of the OFPC Recommended Best Practices for FD Training Programs (01/15) document.

• There are several cumulative exams designed to see where your knowledge is and what you need to work on. 
• Take the time to read your chapters prior to coming to class and be ready to ask questions in the classroom. We are going over the basic information during class but some questions on your exams come from the reading! Do your due diligence as a student to show up to class prepared.
• Skills days are IMPORTANT. You must complete your skills to pass this class. 
• If you are having trouble with something in class, tell us. We don't know there is a problem unless you tell us there is an issue.

This course will prepare students to take the State of Colorado Hazmat Technician written and practical exam for certification. The course will be a hybrid with practical application being completed in person at the main HazMat station 3755 Mark Dabling Blvd, CSC 80907 and course work being completed by the student on their own time. 

Welcome to Apparatus Equipped w/ Fire Pump (Pumper Operator) Course / Hybrid Version. This class is slightly over the traditional 32 hour classroom version as much of what you would normally be doing in a classroom with the instructor and other students is done on your own independently and requires the reading of the textbook. Registering for the course confirms that you agree to the following terms of the class;

1. The course opens on March 29^th at 00:01. The course ends and closes on May 31^st at 21:00.
2. The IFSTA Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator 3^rd Edition is the only text we will be using. You should receive a copy from your Training Officer.
3. To Receive an NOCC from the instructor you must complete all assignments prior to and participate in all of the 2 day exercises on May 16^th and 17^th.
4. You’re agency agrees to send with you or have made arrangements with another participating agency/student to provide a Type 1, 2 or 3 apparatus on June 27^th and 28^th with a qualified apparatus operator/engineer to supervise/coach. It is strongly recommended that to keep the class moving and accomplishing all skills that day that there be no more than 5 students per apparatus.
5. All QUIZZES will be completed. There is 1 attempt at each quiz. You will have 2 minutes per question on each quiz accumulated based on the total number of quiz questions. Quizzes are open book. Scoring 90% or better on a quiz gives you a free pass on NOT having to take the TEST for THAT SAME CHAPTER # ONLY. This is an incentive to read the book and do less work. All assignments will still be completed for each chapter.
6. If you score less than 90.0% on a chapter QUIZ, you must take the chapter TEST for that same chapter. You must retake the test again if you score less than 80%. You are allowed 1 TEST retake for a total of 2 attempts. Your final attempt is your permanent score even if it’s lower than your first attempt. Again, reading the text is important.
7. You must complete the online portion with an accumulative score of 75% or better of all ASSIGNMENTS, QUIZZES and TESTS taken.

This online firefighter education program provides students with the knowledge needed to become certified exterior firefighters in the province of British Columbia. The course features interactive learning material that helps students understand content better and it can be completed at the students pace. Students are permitted to take up to one year to complete the online learning program, however the program can usually be completed within approximately 70 dedicated hours of course work. Experienced Fire Service Instructors are available through the Moodle learning platform to assist students regularly.

This portion of the program has been designed to improve your abilities to manage multiple fire companies. This course opens on Tuesday, October 15th and covers chapters 1 through 11 in the IFSTA Fire and Emergency Services Company Officer, 6th Edition textbook. All chapter tests must be successfully completed with a 70 percent or higher grade before 10pm on Sunday, December 15th. Each participant has up to 2 chances on each test to achieve the 70 percent. 

On Monday, December 16th, class participants will meet at 08:30 to begin work on the practical skills required of this course. The group will meet on December 16th, December 17th, and December 18th from 08:30 to 16:00. (Depending on practical skill work progress, class sessions may be shortened)

Provide entry level firefighters the knowledge and skills to meet the min. JPRs in NFPA 1001.

Full Description

The minimum training standards for Firefighter I certification shall be as set out in Chapter 4 of
that certain document titled NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2019 Edition.  

This course is designed to meet the requirements for Firefighter I.  Candidates shall demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively on emergency scenes and be able to perform the basic tasks assigned.

Skills covered include firefighter orientation, fireground safety, basic self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), personal protective equipment, small tools, apparatus, hose, ladders and basic fireground operations.

To obtain certification candidates must successfully complete the practical skills, score at least a 70% on the state written exam and meet ALL prerequisites prior to testing. The current textbook approved by the Fire & Public Safety Academy is IFSTA Essentials 7th Edition.

Relief Driver/Operator Pumper Academy

The Relief Driver/Operator Pumper Academy is designed to prepare firefighters to safely and effectively operate fire apparatus equipped with fire pumps during emergency and non-emergency operations. This academy provides a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on practical training, and performance-based evaluations that develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to function as a relief driver/operator within the City of Fountain Fire Department.

Students will receive instruction in apparatus inspection and maintenance, emergency vehicle operations, pump theory, hydraulics, water supply, drafting operations, relay pumping, standpipe and sprinkler systems, fireground water distribution, and pump panel troubleshooting. Emphasis is placed on safe apparatus operation, risk management, situational awareness, and efficient fireground decision-making.

The academy incorporates department-specific standard operating procedures, local response considerations, and task book requirements while aligning with nationally recognized driver/operator professional qualification standards and job performance requirements. Participants will complete practical evolutions involving hydrant operations, rural water supply, relay pumping, drafting, and fire attack support operations. Successful completion prepares members to serve as relief driver/operators on Fountain Fire Department pumping apparatus and pursue state certification where applicable.

Relief Driver/Operator Aerial Academy

The Relief Driver/Operator Aerial Academy prepares firefighters to safely operate and position aerial apparatus in support of emergency incidents and daily operations. Through classroom instruction, hands-on training, and competency-based evaluations, students develop the knowledge and practical skills necessary to function as a relief aerial operator within the City of Fountain Fire Department.

Course topics include aerial apparatus construction and components, emergency vehicle operations, aerial positioning, stabilization systems, ladder deployment, elevated master stream operations, aerial rescue considerations, preventive maintenance, operational limitations, and aerial safety. Students will gain experience operating the department's aerial apparatus in a variety of scenarios, including structural firefighting, rescue operations, elevated access, ventilation support, and master stream deployment.

Special emphasis is placed on apparatus placement, scene management, building construction considerations, communication between the operator and company officers, and safe operation around power lines, collapse zones, and other hazards. Training is conducted in accordance with department policies and nationally recognized driver/operator professional qualification standards. Successful completion prepares members to serve as relief aerial operators and perform aerial apparatus operations safely and effectively during emergency incidents.

This course uses the IFSTA manual Hazardous Materials for First Responders, 6th Edition.

You are strongly encouraged to use the reading assignments in this manual to supplement your learning. Additional study materials are available for purchase on our website www.ifsta.org to help ensure your success when taking the certification exam.
