Welcome to Safety and Fire Education! You are enrolled in our Instructor I online course.

This course (TCFP TPA ID#1019123) Opens at 00:01 on April 27, 2020, and closes on June 12, 2020 at 23:59. This means ALL coursework, activities, quizzes, and chapter tests must be completed by the end date. However, the course final and state skills exams can by do not have to be completed by this date. Both the final and the skills exam must be proctored so those action items will be scheduled on an individual basis with the instructor/coordinator.

This course uses IFSTA's Fire and Emergency Services Instructor, 8th ed. You are strongly encouraged to use the reading assignments in this manual to supplement your learning. 

The following are roles and responsibilities of the Fire Instructor, divided by the three certification levels. Each list is not all inclusive and additional roles and responsibilities may be added or omitted by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Each instructor certification will require the ability to perform the roles and responsibilities of the previous certification levels (i.e., An Instructor III should possess the abilities of both the Instructor I and Instructor II levels).

Instructor I

  1. Delivers instruction from a prepared lesson plan;

  2. Assembles course materials;

  3. Reviews and adapts lesson plans to meet the needs of individual students, groups, and the AHJ.

  4. Organizes the instructional environment to maximize the learning experience while maintaining a safe

    learning environment;

  5. Ability to adjust the prepared lesson plan presentation as required to ensure that objectives are attained;

    and

  6. Prepares and maintains training records in accordance to the AHJ requirements.
