Welcome to the Spring 2026 hazmat awareness and operations course. This course is set up for you to complete the "book" learning portion online, reserving our time together for scenarios and field exercises.
Online. For this course, you will complete only Chapters 1-9 on this site--Chapters 10-16 are for specialist training which goes beyond operations level. In each chapter, you will complete 3 items: Review questions, quiz, and test. Once you have completed those items for all 9 chapters, you will receive an invitation to download the certificate of completion. Please download that and send me a digital copy for our records; that and your NOCC will be the documentation that you have completed the course.
In person. Our first meeting will be at Philomath Fire & Rescue Station 201 at 0900 19 April 2026. There will be some classroom time to start, but we will move quickly into practical exercises and field activities. Expect to spend part of each day outside, check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. We will not be in service during class, uniforms are not required. To save time, we won't go off site for lunch, just bring your own and we will take a break on site and keep rolling. We will complete some but not all of the awareness/ops task book during our time together. Some sections will remain for you to complete with your home agency, so that you can demonstrate your ability to respond within your local policies, SOGs, and other guiding documents/practices.
